Professor Bruce Guthrie, SISCC Lead for Primary Care

Professor Bruce Guthrie is a GP and health services researcher with an interest in the quality and safety of healthcare, particularly primary care prescribing safety, polypharmacy and multimorbidity.

His work includes basic epidemiology to quantify drug risk and examine patterns of multimorbidity, polypharmacy and high-risk prescribing; large-scale cluster randomised trials of prescribing safety interventions; and applied research to implement and evaluate change in everyday practice. Clinically he works in a practice in a mining village in Fife, and is a member of a number of NHS committees including the NICE Quality and Outcomes Framework Indicators Advisory Committee, and chairs the recently formed NICE Multimorbidity Guideline Development Group.
