Professor Dame Joan Stringer
Professor Dame Joan Stringer was Principal & Vice-Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University until July 2013, prior to which she was Principal of Queen Margaret University and held senior appointments at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. A social scientist by discipline she has had a long standing interest/involvement in health and internationalisation in higher education. She held many appointments outside academia including Chair of the Northern Ireland Equality Working Group, member Grampian Health Board, the Constitutional Steering Group on the Scottish Parliament, the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland, and the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority. She is currently Chair and Independent non-executive director of a number of organisations in the arts, not-for-profit and private sectors, including Chair of Community Integrated Care, a UK Social Care Charity and Festival City Theatres Trust. She is also a member of the National Theatre of Scotland and a Senior Education Advisor to the British Council. She is a Fellow and Member of the Council and Executive Board of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and a Council Member of the Institute of Directors.
