Clinical Academic Fellow Post (Research)

Opportunity for secondment to the Mother and Infant Research Unit

An exciting opportunity is available for NHS staff in Scotland (Midwife, Health Visitor, Nurse or Allied Health Professional) to apply for a seconded clinical academic research fellow (CAF) post within the Mother and Infant Research Unit (MIRU) in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Dundee. This role provides an opportunity for a registered health professional with an interest in developing a clinical research career in mother and infant health.

The successful applicant will contribute to the research programme and work with research active staff in MIRU. The post-holder will be part of the academic community of the School of Health Sciences with opportunities to contribute to the School research strategy, and to teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.

MIRU’s research is structured around three broad themes: health education, promotion and protection (including infant feeding); quality and organisation of maternity care; and marginalised and vulnerable women and families.

We are looking for a graduate health professional (normally with or working towards a Master’s degree). Applicants should have a desire to develop clinical academic skills in research and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to developing and applying evidence to policy and practice to improve maternal and newborn health and care.

The secondment will be for a fixed period of 12 months in the first instance with the possibility to renew for a further 12 months.  The post will normally be 0.5wte and be based in the School of Health Sciences. The School is looking for this post to commence in August/September 2021. Development for the successful candidate will be focused on the individual appointee’s needs and will include an induction and orientation programme and the ongoing support of an identified mentor.  Anyone wishing to discuss the secondment informally should contact Professor Alison McFadden, e-mail a.m.mcfadden@dundee.ac.uk.

Expressions of interest should be sent to healthsciences-SchoolOffice@dundee.ac.uk  after which you will be sent information on how to apply. The closing date for this post is Monday 24th May at 12pm and interviews will take place in the week of the 7th June.

Clinical Academic Fellow vacancies

An exciting opportunity has arisen for registered nurses with an interest in nursing education to apply for seconded clinical academic fellow (CAF) posts within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Dundee. Three posts are 0.5 FTE fixed for 18 months, with a particular focus on supporting simulated practice placements and practice learning. These roles will support the needs of our pre-registration students during the restricted access to placements caused by the pandemic, but we hope that the high-quality simulated placement experience developed by these roles will continue to support practice learning in the longer term.

Development for the successful candidates will be focused on the individual appointee’s needs and will include an induction and orientation programme and the ongoing support of an identified mentor. Anyone wishing to discuss the secondment informally can contact Dr Linda Martindale, Associate Dean: Learning and Teaching by email at l.martindale@dundee.ac.uk.
